Juniors

Your 11th grade year should be focused on reassessing your Commitment to Graduate and getting all you can from academics and extracurricular to prepare you in your future plans and possibilities. These tips are provided by Jostens.

  • Review your personal graduation plan. Check your transcript - are you on track to graduate on time? If not, develop a plan to get caught up before your senior year.
  • Focus on academics. I know, academics doe snot define your full success, but we have dual redit courses at OHS that can save you time and money later on by taking these courses now!
  • Who are you? Update your high school portfolio or resume
  • Identify your Top 10 career options. Make sure that no matter what you are considering after high school you are on track to meet those college/program requirements before you start applying for acceptance.
  • Continue to volunteer! Are you on track to report your 25 minimum hours next year of high school volunteer time? Give back - this is a piece of a well-rounded YOU!
  • Stay active in school! Clubs, sports, leadership - try another new thing this year. “The final stretch reveals true determination.” - make it count!
  • Register to take the ACT/SAT in the fall of your junior year. This way, if you are unhappy with your score, you have one more chance in the spring.
  • Read your emails! Get in the habit of always checking your emails and Classroom pages. This is where all the information is!
  • Visit colleges/campuses. See the campus, schedule 1:1 sessions. Know the tips and essay requirements for applications.
  • Begin the college/program application processes. List all of your top choices and create a calendar for when applications open. Be ready - have your essay, list all of your experiences in high school (this is where all of the clubs, sports, volunteering you did counts)!
  • Start applying for scholarships! Yes, even if you do not know where you are going you can apply. Many scholarships open Junior year. See one you can't apply for yet? Mark your calendar for their application dates for next year and be ready. Visit our OHS counseling center for all local scholarship opprotunities.
  • Visit the Senior page. Get a sneak peek at what next year will look like.
